Prime Areas

Communication and language Development

Communication and language is one of the three prime areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and involves giving children opportunities to: experience a rich language environment. Develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves. Speak and listen in a range of situations.

Our staff are all fully qualified in supporting this development and have completed extra training, (I CAN, ECAT WELCOMM) to ensure we are all alert to prevention of any issues and early detection and intervention if required.

WELCOMM supports us to track progression of children’s language and communication development

We work closely with speech and language therapists to provide individualised support where required.

Weekly planning includes the development of listening skills through circle time and focused activities and the development of sounds and words through song and story times and music and movement sessions.

Role play areas are a high focus to allow children to use new vocabulary to be expressive and communicate with each other.

Snack and meal times provide a homely setting to promote conversations ,where children discuss their home experiences and learn about each other by asking
